A formal ceremony for the inauguration of new premises of Bulgaria’s Consulate General in Munich took place on the eve of this country’s Independence Day, September 22, the Foreign Ministry’s press centre said.

On Saturday, Bulgaria’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov and the newly appointed Consul General in Munich, Stefan Yonkov, inaugurated the new building with consular districts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The ceremony was attended by more than 100 guests from the Bulgarian diaspora, representatives of the consular corps in Munich, the business community, and the Bavarian administration.

The building was consecrated by the representative of the Bulgarian Church, Economus Nedyalko Kalinov.

Extending on 650 sq m in a modern building in the Bavarian capital, the Consulate General will significantly improve the quality of service for the more than 130,000 Bulgarians who live in the two federal states, the Foreign Ministry said. The Consulate is now equipped with three biometric counters to serve citizens, along with an interview room and a waiting area. The new conference room, outfitted with modern technical equipment, is designed for meetings and forums.

On the opening day of the new Consulate General building, the first meeting was held with representatives of the Bulgarian Sunday schools in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Discussions centered on current developments and challenges. Kondov said that Bulgarian schools are a priority for both the Education and Science Ministry and the Foreign Ministry, highlighting their crucial role in maintaining a connection to the Bulgarian language, culture, traditions, and national identity. At the initiative of the Consul General, each of the Bulgarian schools was presented with guitars from the Bulgarian string instrument manufacturer Kremona in Kazanlak, along with panels and portraits of prominent Bulgarian writers and revolutionaries courtesy of the Prosveta publishing house. Additionally, Klett-Bulgaria publishing house announced an initiative to offer online training and further qualifications for the teaching staff of Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad, starting with those in Germany.
