A slight drop in the prices of some staple food commodities and a rise in the prices of most fruits and vegetables were observed over the outgoing week, State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets data show.
The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.68% to 2.079 points in the outgoing week, the Commission said. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
The price of imported cucumbers increased by 10.6% to BGN 3.10 per kilogram. Open-field tomatoes appreciated by 10.2% to BGN 1.75/kg. The price of red peppers rose by 3.1% to BGN 1.91/kg, while the price of green peppers fell by 1.7% to BGN 1.72/kg.
Potatoes rose by 4.4% to BGN 1.13/kg and carrots by 3.5% to BGN 1.17/kg. The price of cabbage went up by 7.9% to BGN 1.12/kg. The price of onions dropped by 1.5% to BGN 1.07/kg.
Lemons appreciated by 7.5% to BGN 3.72/kg, bananas by 1.1% to BGN 2.74/kg. The price of peaches also went up by 8.1% to BGN 2.17/kg. Watermelons depreciated by 4% to BGN 0.62/kg and grapes by 6% to BGN 2.34/kg.
The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk rose by 0.9% to BGN 11.33/kg, while the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went down by 0.1% to BGN 16.82/kg.
The price of yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) fell by 2.2% to BGN 1.22 for a cup of 400 grammes. Fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) dropped by 0.2% to BGN 2.32 per litre.
The price of chicken rose by 1.4% to BGN 6.39/kg, while the average wholesale price of eggs (size M) remained unchanged at BGN 0.30 per piece.
Rice depreciated by 0.2% to BGN 3.30/kg, lentils by 0.3% to BGN 4.42 per kilo, dry common beans by 2.2% to BGN 4.30/kg.
The price of sugar dropped by 1% to BGN 2.04/kg. Sunflower oil depreciated by 1.2% to BGN 2.81 per litre. Flour (type 500) was selling at BGN 1.27/kg, down by 3.9% from the previous week. The price of butter from cow’s milk rose by 0.5% to BGN 2.78 for a pack of 125 grammes.
