Bulgaria’s caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Petko Nikolov has conferred with the newly appointed Ambassador of Turkmenistan to this country, Esen Aydogdiyev, Nikolov’s Ministry said on Wednesday. The sides discussed opportunities for intensifying economic relations between the two countries. An increase in this year’s bilateral trade was reported during the meeting. Bilateral trade amounted to nearly USD 35 million in the period January-July 2024, up by more than 600% compared to the same period of 2023. The main exports from Bulgaria to Turkmenistan were primarily medicines and medical instruments and equipment, which account for over 60% of total exports.
Despite the positive trend this year, Minister Nikolov and Ambassador Aydogdiyev agreed that bilateral trade still needs to grow. The two discussed ways to strengthen trade cooperation.
They identified several promising sectors, including construction, tourism, digital technologies, the IT sector, and collaborative projects aimed at building energy and transport infrastructure in the context of Europe-Asia connectivity.
