site.btaUPDATED Continue the Change Send Letter to GERB Demanding Adoption of Anti-corruption Legislation

Continue the Change's (CC) Executive Council has sent on Sunday a letter to GERB in connection with the anti-corruption legislation related to the Recovery and Resilience Plan, CC said in a press release.

The current Parliament's failure to adopt this legislation would put at risk some ten billion leva under the plan, which Bulgaria can get, the political party argues.

"As you know, as early as last October the National Assembly was fully prepared to adopt three legislative pieces that are needed for Bulgaria to receive the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan," CC wrote to GERB, pointing out that these are a bill amending the bill on protection whistleblowers, a bill on the bankruptcy of natural persons and legislation concerning the rules for making appointments in the Anti-Corruption Commission.

"The continued postponement and reluctance to adopt these bills puts at risk the entry of ten billion leva of European funds into the Bulgarian economy, slows down economic growth and the improvement of various areas of the lives of Bulgarians," Continue the Change said.  

"Colleagues, please inform us whether you intend to adopt these legislative acts, which we have been commenting for close to a year and a half," CC's letter to GERB reads. CC also recalled that the passage of bills depends on the chairmen of the leading committees and the National Assembly Chair, which are from GERB, eof the National Assembly, who are from GERB, expressing hope to have results in the coming days.

On Saturday, Continue the Change Co-chair Kiril Petkov told journalists that his party will send a "gentleman's letter" to GERB, demanding that this parliament adopts the anti-corruption legislation related to the money under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.  

GERB responded on Saturday by saying that they have repeatedly expressed their arguments against the hasty legislation proposed by CC. "We notice how CC's campaign is blowing all opportunities for talks on [the formation of] a regular government and political stability," GERB said. "We refuse this type of dialogue. GERB will work for and not against," the party added. They reiterated their position once again on Sunday and recalled that CC had many opportunities in the last four years to adopt the laws under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
