Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, who spoke at Wednesday's regular Government meeting, said that, in response to a letter from European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen received on Tuesday, Bulgaria confirmed that it stands behind the GERB-UDF-raised nomination of Ekaterina Zaharieva for EU commissioner.
After the EC was offered two candidacies for Bulgarian EU Commissioner, Zaharieva and Julian Popov raised by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, von der Leyen said in a letter that she chooses the former.
On August 30, the Prime Minister said: "After meeting all the nominees from the parliamentary groups, I was impressed by their high level. I thank the parliamentary groups for taking this matter seriously. Our decision was difficult."
