About 20 million primary and secondary students in Turkiye along with 1.2 million teachers will step into classrooms on September 9 for the first day of school in the first term of the new school year.
A total of 74,000 educational institutions and nearly 750,000 study halls will open their doors after the two-month summer vacation.
On September 2, orientation training for preschool and first-grade students began.
The first day of school in primary schools will open with a general lesson on the "Spirit of independence and love for the motherland from Canakkale to Gaza", specially prepared by the Turkish Ministry of Education.
By a decision of the Istanbul regional administration, the first school day will start an hour later than usual, at 10 o'clock, to accommodate for possible traffic jams.
This year, a number of innovations in the learning processes will be introduced, said National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin earlier at a press conference.
A new curriculum within Century of Türkiye Education Model will be implemented for the first time in kindergarten and in the 1st, 5th and 9th grades, TRT Haber informed.
In the new curriculum, content has been reduced by 35%, and includes work with QR codes, animations, simulations, digital history, applications, aiming to enable students to learn without the need for additional resources.
A number of new practices in vocational-technical education are envisaged with the aim to strengthen professional and technical education and enable the training of qualified personnel.
The education programme includes the opening of craft workshops for students in the 7th and 8th grades of secondary schools, as well as the opening of vocational secondary schools within Anatolian High Schools, which require an entrance exam.
On September 14, Saturday, the new academic year of the Saint Cyril and Methodius Bulgarian Sunday School in the Bulgarian Exarchate in Istanbul will be solemnly opened. It is the only Bulgarian language teaching educational institution in the metropolis under the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Istanbul, supported by the "Bulgarian Exarchate Foundation. This will be the eighth consecutive academic year of the school, which will have about 70 students.
