The Bulgarian national team won four silver medals at the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics, which is taking place in Alexandria, Egypt, September 1-8, with 360 entrants from 93 countries.
The medalists are Daniel Koynov of Shumen, Veselin Markovich of Varna, and Boris Mihov and Andrey Stefanov of Sofia. The team is led by Iliyan Yordanov of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Mathematics and Informatics and Emil Indzhev of LogSoft.
"Ranking 21st in the national teams' medals standings is one of our best performances in at least five years," Yordanov told BTA. He noted the Bulgarians' very interesting and unusual stay in Egypt and the warm hospitality of the local people.
Bulgaria pioneered the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Pravets in 1989 and hosted its second in 2009. "We hope to be able to organize a third IOI in 2029," Yordanov said.
