At this point, the cargo traffic of the two terminals of the Port of Varna totals 5.5 million tonnes, the company's Executive Director Ivaylo Gavrailov said in Devnya on Thursday at a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Varna West Port Terminal.

He added that Varna West takes credit for 3.5 million tonnes of this traffic. Gavrailov explained that this terminal is still the most high-tech one on the region. It employs a number of transport facilities, conveyor belts and pipelines that enable specialized handling of ship loading.

The investments in Varna West alone will reach BGN 20 million until the end of this year, the Executive Director said further. He specified that the funds will be spent on the construction of a new container terminal building, a new general cargo storehouse, and an increase of the capacity of the grain terminal by building a new belt conveyor.

Caretaker Transport and Communications Minister Krasimira Stoyanova, former managers of the port, maritime business executives and local government officials were also among those attending the 50th anniversary observances.
