site.btaZhivko Sedlarski's Elegant Steel Sculptures to Turn Prime Sofia Venue into Fashion Space

One of the best-known Bulgarian sculptors abroad will turn the National Palace of Culture (NDK) into a fashion space with his elegant steel sculptures. Zhivko Sedlarski's exhibition, called Haute couture - haute soudure (High Fashion - High Welding), will open on September 19.

Nicknamed "the Knight of the Steel Ladies", Sedlarski will open the autumn cultural season of this prime Sofia venue ahead of the restart of the traditional Salon des Arts.

The artist has the courage to invite elegance to a "steely dance", critics say. His works are exquisite, daring, original - and metal. Sketches, drawings and sculptures will breathe life into the NDK interior with the kind of energy and light which spring from a man's fascination with the shape, the movements and the beauty of a woman. Sedlarski's "dresses" were born from fascination and evoke fascination.

A richly illustrated trilingual book about Sedlarski, Haute soudure, Zhivko Sedlarski, ART, will be launched during the opening of the exhibition.

Since 1987, works by Sedlarski have ended up in museums, art galleries and private collections in Bulgaria, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, the United States and Lebanon, among other countries. A pioneer in art, his sculptures have acquired iconic status by presenting "fashion not meant for wearing". He has lived with art ever since he was a child (his father was a painter), and with time, he realized that sculpture is an art of plenty.

Women, as a symbol, energy and form, are the main subject of his art. His interest in fashion is his trademark. Fashion shows in Paris, Milan and New York are a source of inspiration for Sedlarski, who has staged two fashion shows himself in France.
