Jazz and pop singer Vassil Petrova and the Stara Zagora Military Big Band received a standing ovation at the Apollonia Arts Festival on Tuesday evening. The event, A Swinging Rock concert, also included Angel Zaberski Jr. and the Nova String Quartet. It was part of the programme of the 40th Apollonia Arts Festival.
The concert started with Hello by Lionel Richie and ended with My Way by Frank Sinatra. In between, the audience heard and sang along with Vassil Petrov's renditions of Can`t Take My Eyes Off of You, the Beatles songs Yesterday and Michelle, Soldier of Fortune and Frank Sinatra's evergreen My Way, Strangers In the Night, New York, New York. The singer also included several Latino songs such as Besame Mucho and Quando, Quando. After receiving a standing ovation and being called for an encore, Petrov returned to the stage and said he would improvise by playing the piano.
The singer thanked the medics who took care of his health, after having to have a splint in his leg, allowing him to perform a series of concerts this summer.
At the beginning of the evening, Executive Director of the Apollonia Art Foundation Margarita Dimitrova received an award from the Bulgarian Association of Employers in the Field of Culture. She the award and noted that it is important for young people to have access to culture.
The Apollonia Arts Festival is organized by the Apollonia Foundation, established in 1991. The first edition of the festival was held in 1984. Apollonia aims to preserve cultural traditions, as well as to support new talents in the field of any kind of arts. BTA is the media partner of the event.
