"The safety and health of people are a top priority, so I expect you to propose concrete measures and actions to ensure the safety of employees and passengers by tomorrow [Friday]," the new caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications, Krassimira Stoyanova, said during a meeting Thursday with the management of Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ), the Ministry's press centre reported.
She asked to be presented with short-term measures related to the control and implementation of the technical inspections of trains, a reference on the availability of spare parts for rolling stock to ensure its safe operation and an analysis of the train schedule.
"The problems in the Bulgarian railways should be openly and honestly discussed in front of the public," Minister Stoyanova said. She added that when discussing possible solutions, as early as tomorrow she would invite representatives of trade unions and independent railway experts to a meeting. The meeting will also be attended by the management of BDZ Holding EAD, BDZ Passengers EOOD and National Railway Infrastructure Company.
According to caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, the problems in BDZ were the reason for changing the caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications after Stoyanova replaced Georgi Gvozdeykov in the Glavchev 2 Cabinet.
