President Rumen Radev and Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev deserve praise at least for the shared responsibility for this government, GERB leader Boyko Borissov told journalists in Parliament after the oath taking ceremony for the new caretaker cabinet on Tuesday.
These two statesmen were able to look at the bigger picture and managed to form a cabinet, Borissov said. He said this is a step forward and political parties should start thinking about sharing responsibility.
Commenting on the composition of the new caretaker cabinet, Borissov said that the names of the new ministers (Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov, Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, and Transport and Communications Minister Krasimira Stoyanova) were most likely proposed by the president.
The leader of GERB also shared his opinion on the amendments to the Constitution which led to a change in the method of appointment of caretaker cabinets. Borissov reiterated that GERB stood behind the amendments, but there are texts that could have been structured better. In his words, all three parties that worked on the changes (Continue the Change, Democratic Bulgaria and GERB) have drawn experience from this. "In this case, today's Constitution is made for highly intelligent, serious and systematic political parties. If there are such [parties], there is no problem with the Constitution as currently adopted. Those of us who wrote and adopted this Constitution must defend what we have adopted," Borissov said, adding that the list of people eligible to be nominated for prime minister, whom the President can choose from, had to be longer.
The amendments reformed the judicial system, limit some of the President's powers, and democratize the election of members of regulatory and control authorities.
Commenting on the visit of Vazrazhdane’s leader Kostadin Kostadinov to Moscow to participate in the 6th BRICS International Municipal Forum, Borissov said that because of it, GERB will not work with Vazrazhdane in the future.
Borissov urged the politicians to mind their language if they do not want to hold snap elections once again.
