Unfortunately, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev was unable to free himself from his dependencies and once again proposed a cabinet of convenience for backroom circles, said Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) in a position on Monday.
"Borissov and Peevski will make elections again," the CC-DB said, adding that they did not have high expectations, but the proposed cabinet exceeds the negative expectations.
Another nomination of a "system insider" instead of a socially significant figure external to the Interior Ministry as caretaker minister buries the idea of civilian control over the Ministry, CC-DB added.
"We have no confidence in Atanas Ilkov, named caretaker Interior Minister. We have already stated this when he was proposed by Mariya Gabriel as interior minister in a regular cabinet. Then we rejected the proposal due to the fact that Ilkov led the ill-fated raid in Lyaskovets in 2014, in which an Interior Ministry employee died and three officers were injured," the position says.
"We have enough information to believe that this is another conduit of Peevski's interests, a Kalin Stoyanov’s double. The new interior minister must prove that he is not another "lieutenant" of Peevski in the Interior Ministry. Therefore, our assessment of Atanas Ilkov's performance will depend solely on his ability to dissociate himself from Peevski's influence and pressure. This can only happen in one way - by limiting vote-buying", the CC-DB said.
Through parliamentary oversight, the CC-DB will closely monitor the activities of the Ministry of Interior in relation to the prevention and counteraction of crimes against the political rights of citizens. We will highlight any attempt to distort the electoral process, the coalition said, adding that it is the duty of the caretaker government to organize fair elections and not to give rise to suspicions of distorting the electoral process.
