Bulgaria’s Lora Hristova won the title in the junior women’s super sprint event at the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Otepaa, Estonia, on Thursday.

The Bulgarian triumphed with a time of 22:41.9 minutes after missing just once in the last of the four shootings.

In 2023, Hristova snatched three gold medals at the World Championships in Osrblie (Slovakia) – in the junior women’s sprint, super sprint, and pursuit events – becoming the most decorated biathlete at the tournament.

This is Hristova’s third successive title in this discipline after she won bronze at the 2022 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding.

Finland’s Inka Hamalainen came in second with three misses. Norway’s Ragna Fodstad placed third with four misses.

Two more Bulgarian female athletes participated in the super sprint final. Valentina Dimitrova placed fourth with five misses and was 29.5 seconds behind the winner, while Irina Georgieva came in 29th with six missed targets.

Konstantin Vasilev, Veselin Belchinski, and Georgi Dzhorgov did not make it to the top 25 out of the 30 competitors in the junior men’s event. Vasilev finished 25th with eight missed targets, Belchinski placed 27th with 10 missed targets, and Dzhorgov made it to the 29th position with 9 misses.

David Elias of Czechia was crowned the world champion, followed by Matija Legovic of Croatia and Victor Berglund of Sweden.

The World Championships in Estonia continue with the men's and women's super sprint events on Friday and the all-ages sprint finals on Saturday. The tournament will end on Sunday with the junior men's and women’s pursuit events and the men's and women’s gala mass start.
