The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) imposed a five-year punishment on Bulgarian basketball player Mihail Kombakov, the Bulgarian Basketball Federation (BBF) said here on Wednesday. Kombakov became the third sanctioned Bulgarian basketball player after Martin Stefanov and Teodora Dineva, and coach Boyko Milenkov.
Kombakov is banned from performing his duties and from participating in any FIBA activities. The reason for the sanction is betting on basketball competitions, obstruction of the investigation and violation of the duty to report. Kombakov’s punishment will expire on November 21, 2028.
In connection with this and previous sanctions imposed, BBF reiterated its continued cooperation with FIBA in combating unregulated betting and will not tolerate activities contrary to the principles of fair play.
Martin Stefanov is banned from all FIBA or FIBA-related activities for 18 months. However, the last six months of his sanction have been suspended for a probationary period of three years due to mitigating factors and the sanction expires on October 24, 2024.
The punishment of Teodora Dineva will expire on October 25, 2026, and Boyko Milenkov was sanctioned to 10 years, until October 2, 2033.
