Tens of thousands of Turkish citizens continue to emigrate to Germany, some of them with legal work and residence permits, while others are going there illegally, the opposition newspaper Sozcu reports.

According to the data, in the first seven months of this year, 25,059 Turkish citizens emigrated to Germany and applied for asylum there. The majority of them are young families.

The newspaper notes that the German state provides financial support of EUR 575 per month to those whose asylum applications are approved, as well as to those who have been granted protection status. Separately, they also received assistance in the form of funds for rent, fuel and health care. Thus, a family of four with the right to asylum in the country received a net cash allowance of EUR  2,200 a month, and together with the funds for rent, heating and health care, the amount reaches EUR 3,500, the Turkish newspaper said.

Turks ranked third after Syrians and Afghans among migrants who came to Germany in since the start of 2024. The first largest group, that of Syrians arriving via Turkiye, numbered 61,000. This was followed by migrants from Afghanistan, 26,900, and those from Turkiye, 25 059.

German authorities approve between 75% and 85% of asylum applications from Syrians and Afghans, but around 90% of applications from Turkish asylum seekers are rejected, the newspaper said. Despite this, Turks continued to go to Germany and somehow manage to stay in that country without being extradited, Soizju noted.

According to the Haberler website, a total of 226 Turks have voluntarily returned from Germany in 2023. According to the media outlet, German authorities provided them with funds to return to their homeland.
