Turkiye's Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said that Instagram users in Turkiye have regained access to the social network.
On Saturday night Uraloglu announced on X that the authorities lifted restrictions on access to Instagram after successful negotiations with Meta representatives.
Access to the social network resumed at 9.30 pm.
Progress has been made on the issues of removing publications related to a number of crimes, Uraloglu said.
On August 2, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority blocked access to Instagram because the social network does not comply with the country's "catalogue of crimes". This catalogue includes crimes such as child sexual abuse, encouraging suicide, insulting the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and posts supporting terrorist organizations such as the PKK and FETO.
Minister Uraloglu indicated that content falling under the "catalogue crimes" would be removed. He added that more Meta staff are planned to be recruited in Turkiye.
Meanwhile, a large number of Instagram users in Turkiye used the social network via virtual private networks (VPNs) last week.
