site.btaProf. Basar: Bulgaria and Turkiye Cooperate Intensively in Polar Research
Turkiye works intensively with Bulgaria in the field of polar research, Prof. Dr Ersan Basar of the Faculty of Maritime Sciences at Turkiye's Karadeniz Technical University said in an interview for BTA. The two countries cooperate both in Antarctica and in the Arctic.
Basar, who headed Turkiye's Fourth National Arctic Expedition and Eighth National Antarctic one spoke about the former, saying that 11 scientists took part in it, including Bulgarian Dr Peter Sapundzhiev. Sapundzhiev's work included conducting tests of the atmosphere.
The expedition, which began on June 25 and lasted a month, was very successful with all 16 scientific projects having been brought to fruition despite the poor weather conditions. The other projects focused on marine pollution, marine activity, plankton and meteorology.
Turkiye organizes scientific expeditions to both Antarctica and the Arctic annually because of the opportunity to get new data at the poles, which facilitates monitoring the climate change.
