Truck traffic in the area of the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse is very intense on Wednesday, said border officials.
A long queue of trucks has formed between the border crossing area and the roundabout in the area of the Free Zone Ruse. The buffer parking lot where trucks wait to cross into Romania is also full.
Truck driver Petyo Iliev commented to BTA that he always has to wait a full day to cross the Danube Bridge border checkpoint. "I hope they will launch the ferry soon, so that traffic here will ease off. With this waiting time, companies are making losses and small carriers are having a hard time," he said.
Over the past 24 hours, a total of nearly 2,650 trucks crossed the bridge in both directions. Of them, nearly 1,400 trucks left Bulgaria, and 1,250 entered the country.
There are fewer cars compared to previous days, waiting for up to 10 minutes to cross the border into Romania.
On July 10, a major overhaul of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old Danube Bridge was launched.
