An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale rocked Adana Province in the southern half of Turkiye, Wednesday at 5.32 a.m., Turkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) reported. Three aftershocks followed.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.6 kilometres. It was followed in the next two minutes by tremors with a magnitude of 4.5 and 4. Another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 rocked the region at 5.58 a.m.

The earthquakes caused a strong scare among the locals. CNN Turk quoted Turkiye's Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya who said that the quake had been felt in neighbouring provinces as well. There is no information about victims so far.

The Minister reported that AFAD teams have been sent to the area to carry out ground surveys for possible damage. No damage has been confirmed at this point.

Adana was among the provinces that were badly hit in the devastating 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in February 2023, when more than 50,000 people were killed.
