National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan and Israel's Ambassador to Bulgaria Yosef Levi Sfari Wednesday opened a photo exhibition about the attack of October 7, 2023, when Palestinian armed groups involved in the assault on Israel, committed numerous violations of international humanitarian law. The exhibition contains images taken by Israeli photographer Ziv Koren.
Nazaryan said that the еxhibited photos have a strong message for universal peace and for preventing such barbaric acts of terrorism anywhere in the world. "Today's exhibition once again gives us an opportunity to firmly declare together that terrorism and all violence against innocent civilians have no place in the modern world. In the days following the attack, Bulgarian institutions and our society immediately expressed their compassion for the victims and the Israeli people. Bulgaria's position remains unchanged, we demand immediate release of all hostages and the resolution of the hostage crisis, which is deepening," Nazaryan noted.
Yosef Levi Sfari said that October 7 was an extremely difficult day for his country as 1,200 people were killed, other 250 were kidnapped, and 115 more men, women and children were left in the hands of terrorists, he added. "It was not only Israel that was affected on October 7, in many parts of the world things turned around and took a course that we did not want to see. Instead of fighting terrorism, we see people supporting it, and not only in places where this support is natural: we see it in Western universities, in the United Kingdom and in the United States," Sfari said. He added that instead of support for Jews around the world, anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews are increasing.
Israel's Ambassador recalled that the friendship between Bulgarians and Jews, which existed centuries ago, existed 80 years ago, continues nowadays and this friendship was evident after the attack in October 2023, when Bulgarian Parliament adopted one of the strongest declarations of support. "We also saw it when members of the European Parliament sided with Israel when necessary, and we saw it in the actions of the Bulgarian Government. The Jewish people and Israel will win this war, because we have no alternative, but there is a very clear message that we need to take into account and we need to learn our lessons, to take steps against the disinformation on social media which spreads fake news and hate, steps against hate, because the next victims will be all of us," the Ambassador added.
