site.btaInvestigation into Fireworks Depot Explosions Overseen by Sofia Regional Prosecution

An investigation into a fire in a fireworks depot near Elin Pelin has been opened under the supervision of Sofia Regional Prosecutor’s Office. 

Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has assigned the investigation to the National Investigative Service. Five investigators were sent immediately to the site where they interviewed witnesses. 

A team of the National Investigative Service is ready to inspect the site immediately after the firefighting efforts end and there is no risk of new explosions.

On Friday morning an inspection of a warehouse of a large supermarket chain began after the ensuing fire on Thursday. 

On Thursday, a fireworks depot, located in close proximity to the road connecting the town of Elin Pelin and the village of Gara Elin Pelin near Sofia, caught fire and a series of explosions took place.
