Bulgarians tend to opt for coach transport three times as often as other EU citizens, according to a Eurobarometer survey released by the European Commission on Monday. The survey also shows that the majority of Europeans (73% in Bulgaria and 69% in the rest of the EU) do not make an official complaint when they face a serious travel disruption.
In Bulgaria, 42% of respondents said they use coach transport, compared to 14% in the rest of the EU. In the EU, 33% use rail transport (compared to 16% in Bulgaria), and 23% fly by plane (16% in Bulgaria). Fifty-two percent use local urban transport (compared to 47% in Bulgaria).
A total of 60% of respondents in Bulgaria (63% in the EU) said they have never read, heard, or seen information about passenger rights. Most Bulgarians (85%) and other EU citizens (70%) said they have not experienced any disruptions over the last 12 months.
The Commission Monday published revised interpretative guidelines on air passenger rights that will facilitate compliance with regulations and harmonize enforcement by national bodies.
