The Bulgarian Armed Forces are taking part in the firefighting efforts across the country for the sixth day in a row, the Defence Ministry’s press service said.

The 61st Stryamska Mechanized Brigade of the Land Forces has been involved in taming the flames in the area of the Otets Paisievo village, Plovdiv Region. A total of 40 servicepersons with eight units of specialized equipment are on the ground, the Ministry added.

Personnel with specialized equipment from the 91st General Engineer Support Battalion of Plovdiv joined the efforts at 7.40 a.m. on Wednesday.

The servicepersons have been operating under the command of the Commander of the Land Forces, Major General Deyan Deshkov. A Mi-17 helicopter and a crew from the 24th Krumovo Air Base of the Air Force also took part in the fire suppression efforts.

More than 30 houses have been burned down by the wildfire near Otets Paisievo village so far.

A firefighting module from the 2nd Tunjan Mechanized Brigade of the Land Forces has been operating in the area of a wildfire near Stara Zagora since 8:30 a.m., the Ministry said. Twenty-two servicepersons with four pieces of equipment have been deployed on the spot.

A second helicopter from the Krumovo Air Base, AS 532 AL Cougar, has been dispatched to assist in extinguishing a wildfire near the village of Voden, Yambol Region.
