site.btaGovernment to Aid Homeowners Impacted by Recent Fires

The interdepartmental disaster relief commission at the Council of Ministers is set to provide financial support to citizens whose homes were destroyed by fires, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said at a parliamentary hearing on the national fire crisis on Wednesday. 

Stoyanov, who is also chair of the interdepartmental commission, anticipated funding requests after the fires. He said that these requests must be well-documented and comply with the commission's regulations.

He said that the commission distributes BGN 130 million each year for disaster relief. To date, he said, current funding requests from various municipalities have surged to about BGN 800 million.

Addressing the current situation, he said that financial aid for the recent fires will be available through grants and municipal budgets. This aid aims to support emergency and recovery efforts for uninsured property damage, which affects a majority of citizens.
