Bulgaria's Victor Lilov, 17, is the only European in the top 10 of the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) for pre-university students. His medal at the competition in Kazakhstan earlier in July made him the world's first ever gold medalist of the two most prestigious biology and chemistry competitions - the International Biology Olympiad and the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), said the Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association.

Victor won gold at the world's top three chemistry and biology competitions: IChO 2023 in Zurich, which attracted school students from 88 countries, IBO 2024 in Kazakhstan, where he competed with students from 81 countries, and the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Shenzhen, China, in April 2024.

Victor has entered for IChO 2024 in Saudi Arabia, which kicks off on July 21.

He graduated from the Sofia High School of Mathematics this year and will do Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge.
