Traffic at the Kapikule-Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on the Turkish-Bulgarian border is intense, Ihlas News Agency said on Monday. The media outlet attributes this to the large number of Turkish guest workers travelling home from European countries for the holidays, passing through Bulgaria.

On Sunday, a record total of 9,005 motor vehicles and 38,692 passengers arrived at Kapikule, according to the website of the Edirne Regional Administration. According to the Vali's office, this is a record for Kapikule crossings in a day.

The Trakia Customs and Foreign Trade Regional Directorate said that all 25 entry and exit points at Kapikule are working round the clock to cater for the heavy traffic. Each of the 12 points at the entrance to Turkiye is manned by two officers.

Since June 22, a total of 575,000 people with 150,000 vehicles have arrived in Turkiye through the Kapikule, Hamzabeyli and Derekoy border crossings on the Turkish-Bulgarian border and through Pazarkule and Ipsala on the Greek border.
