site.btaBulgarian Becomes World Karting Vice-Champion at Sodi W Finals
Bulgaria's Viktor Nikolov finished second in the overall standings at the Sodi W Finals world karting competition here on Saturday. The 15-year-old racer from Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) thus became the first Bulgarian representative with such a good ranking in that race's history.
After five rounds, Nikolov collected a total of 186 points for the silver medal in the Junior Kid class. The gold went to Poland's Lukasz Jezierski with 202 points.
In the last two races, Nikolov performed excellently. In the Super Series the Bulgarian driver started from second position. He held that place throughout the race, and at the last turn before the finish line he made a successful attack to win with an advantage of 0.079 seconds.
In the last run on the track in Genk, Nikolov pulled a slower kart. He set off again from second position at the start, which he held until the last lap. There he was surpassed by two other riders for the final fourth place.
Nikolov thus achieved his best world championship finish in his fourth appearance in the Sodi W Finals. Until now he had not reached so high in the overall ranking for his age group.
