site.btaFood Price Index Slips 0.29% in First Week of July
The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went down by 0.29% to 2.053 points in the outgoing week, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
The price of imported cucumbers increased by 2.1% to BGN 2.45 per kilogram. Greenhouse cucumbers appreciated by 11.4% to BGN 2.74/kg. Greenhouse tomatoes depreciated by 9% to BGN 2.22/kg. The price of potatoes fell by 1.7% to BGN 1.16/kg. The price of carrots dropped by 2.4% to BGN 1.24/kg and of imported onions, by 6.3% to BGN 1.19/kg. The price of cabbage went up 5.1% to BGN 0.82/kg.
Imported apples went up by 6.9% to BGN 2.01/kg, while lemons depreciated by 1.8% to BGN 2.74/kg and bananas, by 1.1% to BGN 2.73/kg. Strawberries rose by 19.4% to BGN 5.30/kg and cherries, by 17.7% to BGN 4.13/kg.
The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 1.0% to BGN 10.89/kg and the price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type, by 1.5% to BGN 17.17/kg.
The price of yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) increased by 3.4% to BGN 1.20 for a cup of 400 grammes. Fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) dropped by 4.3% to BGN 2.22 per litre.
Chicken appreciated by 3% to BGN 6.88/kg, while the average wholesale price of eggs (size M) remained unchanged at BGN 0.27 per piece.
The price of rice increased by 1.5% to BGN 3.29/kg, while that of lentils went down by 0.9% to BGN 4.27/kg. The price of dry common beans decreased by 1.7% to BGN 4,09/kg.
Sugar appreciated by 0.5% to BGN 1.96/kg. Sunflower oil was selling at BGN 2.90 per litre, down by 4.3% from the last week of June. The price of flour (type 500) decreased by 4.7% to BGN 1.23/kg, while butter from cow’s milk appreciated by 1.5% to BGN 2.70 for a pack of 125 grammes.
