site.btaBulgarian Customs Seize BGN 1 Mln-Plus Worth of Undeclared USD, EUR at Border with Turkiye

A total of EUR 514,000 and USD 60,000, the equivalent of a total of BGN 1,114,917.82, was seized during a customs inspection at the border checkpoint, the Customs Agency said on Tuesday. The undeclared foreign currency was found in a bus with a Turkish license plate. The bus, traveling from Romania, was inspected while exiting Bulgaria.

During an X-ray examination, customs officers discovered packages of banknotes concealed in two specially designed compartments.

The violation was discovered as part of a joint operation between the Customs Agency, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Border Police and the National Revenue Agency.

Pre-trial proceedings have opened in the case.
