A Bulgaria Day forum was held in Reus, Spain, aimed at fostering economic ties and promoting trade and investment opportunities between Bulgaria and Catalonia, the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Barcelona (CGBB) said. The event was jointly organized by CGBB, the Office of Trade and Economic Affairs (OTEV), and the Reus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and took place on June 19, 2024.

The event saw participation from representatives of 23 local companies across various sectors including the food industry, industrial water treatment, transport and logistics. It also included agriculture and livestock, chemical industry, textiles, and services. The industrial sector in the cities of Reus and Tarragona, part of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, ranks among the most developed in the region, the diplomatic mission shared.

Among the participants were Bulgarian Consul General Tsvetelin Tsolov and the Head of OTEV Maria Boyadjieva-Gounell. The Spanish delegation included President of RCCI Mario Basora, VP of RCCI Angel Torija; RCCI Director General Jaume Llosas; and RCCI Director of International Relations Elena Díaz, among others.

Basora opened the event, expressing satisfaction with its focus on enhancing trade and economic cooperation. He emphasized the local business community's interest in Bulgaria and commended CGBB’s initiative.

Tsolov highlighted Bulgaria's economic strengths, including financial stability, favourable fiscal conditions, a skilled workforce, competitive business costs, and strategic geographical positioning. He expressed optimism for future meetings to further trade relations.

Boyadjieva-Gunnelli presented on the investment opportunities in Bulgaria, focusing on the legal framework, offered incentives, access to new markets, and the development potential of key sectors.

A Catalan entrepreneur, who owns a business in Bulgaria, imparted his positive experiences and practical advice about conducting business in the country for interested companies. The Director of the Trade and Investment Agency for Tarragona emphasized the importance of internationalization for local companies.

The event featured a discussion and provided for networking opportunities. Participants appreciated the presence of CGBB in their region, which they noted significantly facilitates business operations.
