A regional prom for students finishing 9th and 12th grade was held in the Moldovan town of Taraclia on June 29. Many of the high school graduates from Taraclia Region, especially those from the Bulgarian lyceums of Olimpii Panov in Taraclia and Tvarditsa village, Paisii Hilendarski in the village of Korten and Hristo Botev in the village of Valea Perjei, are very interested in higher education in Bulgaria, said Lilia Sarsaman, the Head of the Education Department of Taraclia Region.

Sarsaman said that education in Bulgaria is preferred for several reasons and the first one is the attractiveness of the studying conditions. "The Bulgarian Education Ministry's Decree No. 103 provides the opportunity for free studies on a scholarship, which makes the financial aspect crucial for choosing to study in Bulgaria. Moreover, Bulgaria offers interesting specializations that enable graduates to find a career in Bulgaria and in other EU countries, as the diploma is recognized worldwide," she added.

In Sarsaman’s words, it is best if graduates remain to study in Moldova, because this way they get the opportunity to integrate into Moldovan society. By receiving education in Moldova, they learn Romanian, start communicating in the state language and undergo practice in Moldovan organizations and enterprises.

“This is the most advantageous option for us, because such specialists are more likely to stay and be useful in our country and in our region. When our children enter foreign universities, they hardly return home. And those who do return are often unable to find a career because they do not speak Romanian, even though they have a European degree. I can say in advance that this year about 40% of all graduates will enter higher education in Bulgaria," Sarsaman said.

During the official part of the prom, the graduates were congratulated for successful completion of education by Taraclia Region Chairperson Lazar Dermenji and his deputies, the Head of the Education Department of Taraclia Region, Lilia Sarsaman, the Member of Moldovan Parliament, Elena Belyakova and public figure Alexander Borimechkov.
