European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit, who gave a video address at the Green Transition Forum 4.0 here on Friday, said that concerns about the loss of jobs during the green transition should be allayed. In a reference to the Green Deal and miners' concerns about it, he said that those working in the sector understand the need for change, but are concerned about what will happen to their jobs in the future.
The Commissioner said that Europe's efforts should focus on supporting those groups in society that will bear the damage that comes with the change. He defended the notion that Europe's economy should invest in new technologies in order to be competitive, greener and more sustainable.
On the European social model, Schmit said that the most valuable resource is people, which is why much more should be invested in human capital. Leading the green transition in the right direction means to rely on people's skills, he added.
The three-day forum is organized by Dir.bg and 3E News.
