During the 2014-2020 programming period, Troyan Municipality and businesses attracted over BGN 45 million, Mayor Donka Mihaylova said at the "Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future" conference in Lovech on Thursday. She emphasized that the local government and businesses are working to improve the quality of life and called the attracted funds "a breath of fresh air".

"For us, the first priority has always been the construction of the utility infrastructure. These are the projects that people don't notice, or rather, they notice them until the moment we stop causing them difficulties and they can benefit from the completed projects," Mihaylova said. She recalled that 85% of the town's infrastructure was built during her first term. "In the last term, together with Apriltsi Municipality, we worked on a waste management project and built a modern waste management system, which is showing results," Mihaylova said.

"Partnership has always been important to us. We cannot and should not work alone, we get results when the various sectors are united, as well as when the municipalities work together," Mihaylova added.

BTA's Europe in the Balkans project is supported by the European Commission. It aims to foster a better understanding of the role of cohesion policy in the Balkans, promote dialogue on the results of the projects at the local level, and boost civic participation in issues related to cohesion policy.

The series of conferences under the project was launched on December 20, 2023, in Sofia. The programme for 2024 includes discussions in the cities of Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Samokov, Silistra, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen, Yambol, Kardzhali, Vratsa, and Montana, as well as cross-border conferences in Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Bucharest, Edirne, Skopje, and Thessaloniki.
