Navy personnel from five countries jointly trained in mine countermeasures during the Navy's 4th annual diving exercise codenamed "Triton 2024,” which has already concluded, the Navy Headquarters said in a press release here on Friday.
The exercise involved naval personnel from Bulgaria, Romania, Turkiye, the US and France who specialize in the destruction and disposal of munitions under water.
Diving teams from various countries trained together for several days to perform specific tasks. Unlike the previous year, when adverse weather conditions hindered deep water descents, all operational tasks were successfully executed this year, including the deployment of the Navy's FUSION underwater drone.
The realistic setting and strategically chosen areas honed the expertise and capabilities of the participating diving teams in executing NATO procedures and standards for underwater diving and demolition operations. This also bolstered the interoperability of the participants in neutralizing the mine threat at sea, the Navy Headquarters added.
The exercise was completed for the fourth consecutive year in the operational zone of Varna Naval Base and the nation's territorial waters.
