The Caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, took part in a meeting of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council of the European Union in Luxembourg on June 18, Gvozdeikov's Ministry said on Tuesday.

The EU ministers adopted a common approach on the proposal for a regulation on the European Maritime Safety Agency and a Directive on river information services.

In the field of rail transport, ministers discussed a regulation on the railway infrastructure capacity in the single European railway area. "Bulgaria fully supports a more efficient and flexible framework for the allocation of rail capacity. Our efforts are focused on the renewal of rolling stock as well as the optimization and completion of railway infrastructure. These are priority activities that will attract more travelers to rail transport," Gvozdeikov said.

The proposal to amend the Council’s Combined Transport Directive was also discussed during the meeting. Minister Gvozdeikov expressed Bulgaria's position on reducing the permissible road sections by introducing a maximum or flexible threshold in line with the EU member states’ area and geographical situation.
