site.btaCustoms Agency Seizes Large Amount of Undeclared US Currency at Border with Turkiye

Customs officers found undeclared currency in the amount of USD 340,000, with is the equivalent of BGN 622,291. The cash was discovered during an inspection of a passenger van, the Customs Agency said here on Tuesday. The violation was discovered as part of a joint operation between the Customs Agency, the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, the General Directorate for Border Police and the National Revenue Agency.

On June 15, a van with a foreign registration arrived at the checkpoint. The vehicle, driven by a Ukrainian citizen, was carrying seven passengers from Ukraine via Bulgaria to Turkiye. All of them declared that they were not carrying any cash to declare. A thorough inspection of the vehicle found the cash hidden in a cavity behind the TV. 

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
