Bulgaria's New Parliament to Open on June 19

Bulgaria's 50th National Assembly will open its inaugural sitting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, according to a decree issued by President Rumen Radev, his Press Secretariat said on Monday.

As required by the Constitution, the new parliament will be opened by the oldest National Representative who, in this case, is Silvi Kirilov, 73. He was elected on the ticket of the There Is Such a People party in the Burgas Constituency. Kirilov was the eldest member of the 47th National Assembly and opened its first sitting on December 3, 2021.

The name list of the 240 MPs of the 50th National Assembly, elected on June 9, was released by the Central Election Commission on June 14.

At the inaugural sitting, the lawmakers will be sworn in and are supposed to elect a chairperson of the legislature.
