Sandor Marai's book The Candles Burn Till the End will be presented on June 19 at the Hungarian Liszt Institute in Sofia. The book is published by the Nike publishing house, the organizers said.

Marai's book is a drama of overdue reckoning. Published in 1942, it has been staged in numerous theatres around the world for decades, showing the upheavals of friendship, loyalty and betrayal, the organizers said.

Marаi was born in 1990, in the city of Kassa in Hungary. He was a writer, poet and journalist. In 1933, he was sent to Berlin, where he closely followed Hitler's rise to power. He described the essence of Nazism truthfully and with unparalleled courage. His major work is the biographical and at the same time sociographic novel Confessions of a Bourgeois (1934).

Between 1948-1990 his works could not be published in Hungary. He wrote the most expressive poem of the Hungarian emigration, the Funeral Oration (1950). He lived in San Diego, the USA, after 1979 where committed suicide. In 1990 he was posthumously awarded the Kossuth Prize
