Czech illustrator Vendula Chalankova will present her project At Janacek's at the Czech Centre here on June 22, the organizers said. She will also lead a creative workshop for children entitled "Let's cook for Janacek".
The project is supported by the Czech Centre in Sofia, the Embassy of Czechia in Sofia, Czechoslovak Club T. G. Masaryk in Bulgaria and the Czech Theatre Institute Sound Czech.
The exhibition will present illustrations that Chalankova created for Maria Stejskalova's two books. Stejskalova worked as a housekeeper for composer Leos Janacek's family for many years, which inspired her to write two books: a cookbook containing recipes that she used at Janaceks, as well as Mary's Memoirs, in which she recounts various events involving the composer, his wife and their two children. The books have been published by TIC BRNO and the Moravian Museum.
Leos Janacek (1854–1928) is the world's most frequently performed Czech opera composer.
Chalankova (born in 1981) graduated from the Faculty of Arts in Brno. She is one of the most authentic and specific Czech artists today.
