It is important to make a bridge in Bulgaria between science and business, because there is a big hole between scientific research and businesses, said Academician Julian Revalski, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). He was speaking at the opening of the 4th Science for Business Forum here on Tuesday. In his words, the gap between science and businesses is a disadvantage that can be overcome only with steps by both sides.

He thanked the Bulgarian SME Promotion Agency for organizing Tuesday's forum together with BAS in an attempt to shorten the distance between science and businesses and make their relations much more effective.

"First, once a country invests in research, scientists should and are obliged, in the part where research can lead to innovation, to incorporate these studies in the economy. There is a second thing that is very important for Bulgaria, and that is that in our country this is the only way to have a strong and competitive economy", said Revalski.

The aim of the forum is to present best practices and successful examples of cooperation between businesses and scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The public has the opportunity to get acquainted with scientific discoveries and products with applications in various areas of the economy, such as the production of nuclear energy with hydrostatic pressure, a pilot line for the production of lithium-ion batteries, materials for the disposal of greenhouse gases, biosensor technology for pesticide detection, the production of refractory mullite ceramic products using 3D printing, a prototype of a smart boxing pear, and others.

The event also includes a separate exhibition hall to showcase the work of BAS scientists.
