St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia announced on Tuesday that the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) has granted final approval for the university's full membership. The approval was given at the organization's General Assembly on June 10, 2024, in Bologna, Italy. Faculty of Economics Dean Atanas Georgiev attended the assembly, marking the institution's inaugural participation.

EFMD serves as a pivotal network comprising business schools and corporations focused on enhancing management education standards. With 30,000 management professionals from academia and business, it facilitates a platform for research dissemination and promotes discussions on best practices in management education, Sofia University shared.

Sofia University says it will enhance the educational landscape by providing students with a robust learning environment and improved career prospects. EFMD, a prestigious global accrediting body for business schools, operates under the EQUIS – EFMD Quality Improvement System standards.

Sofia University also highlights that with official EFMD membership, students, alumni, faculty, and administrative staff gain complimentary access to extensive training opportunities, professional development resources, and a broad network of valuable contacts. EFMD hosts virtual exhibitions and forums offering job opportunities for PhD students in business management, access to publications, international projects, and various accreditation and certification systems. The organization also provides awards for case writing and doctoral research.

The University of Sofia's Faculty of Economics is the first university of economics in Bulgaria to receive international accreditation from AMBA. This landmark achievement distinguishes the Faculty as the sole Bulgarian member of the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the nation’s first business school to join the Global Business School Network (GBSN).
