site.btaPoland's Donald Tusk Fulfills Dream to Prevail over Jaroslaw Kaczynski's Law and Justice, Journalist Says
In a BTA interview on Monday, Bulgarian-Polish journalist and political analyst Boyan Stanislavski said that the results of the European Parliament elections in Poland are a bit surprising, and the person who can now feel satisfied is Prime Minister Donald Tusk because he has fulfilled his ten-year dream of prevailing over the rival Law and Justice party and his main political opponent Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
"I think it can be considered some kind of a surprise that the Civic Coalition still managed to win," Stanislavski noted.
According to the journalist, yet another surprise was the election result of the Confederation coalition (short for Confederation Liberty and Independence), made up of patriotic, right-wing, libertarian parties, which became a third political force.
Another coalition that participated in the European elections, the Third Way political alliance, is a dying political project, or so it seems now, Stanislavski believes. This political structure has experienced a resurgence since the parliamentary elections in Poland in October 2023. Back then, it was preferred by people who wanted to look beyond the Tusk-Kaczynski quarrel, but its popularity declined very rapidly, he recalled, adding that Third Way has failed to stand out with a clear political proposal.
The Left political alliance, a coalition formed of three parties, is still in a period of constant head-scratching and searching for its own programmatic identity. So far, its representatives have not been engaged in any specific political projects that would determine where they position themselves on the Polish political scene, Stanislavski underscored.
