Bulgarian sculptor Daniel Mirchev DUNA opened his second solo exhibition in the Brussels contemporary art gallery Macadam.
The exhibition "Something in the Air" comprises twelve sculptural works, "each of which is in dialogue with the others to create a common sense of expectation," the Bulgarian Embassy in Belgium told BTA.
The opening was attended by representatives of the diplomatic mission in Brussels and the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the European Union.
"The sculptures in "Something in the Air" convey a sense of lightness, as if hanging in space. The exhibition explores the delicate balance between the tangible and the ethereal, a recurring theme in Daniel's work, and offers a journey through the invisible currents that shape each individual world," the Embassy said.
The exhibition runs until July 6.
Daniel Mirchev is a sculptor from the Brussels gallery's portfolio, known among its collectors for his dynamic wooden sculptures. With over 30 years of experience, his work explores the interplay between the figurative and the abstract, and in recent years has adopted an unusual material for sculpture - plywood.
The choice of plywood as a medium is dictated by the layered structure of the material, which creates new lines in the sculpting process, which in turn add depth and dynamism to the volume of the forms created.
In addition to the Macadam Gallery of Contemporary Art in Brussels, Daniel Mirchev's work is also featured in London's Cube Gallery and in the United States by Lanoue Gallery. In 2023, the exhibition "BLUR" at the Credo Bonum gallery in Sofia presented his works that challenged viewers to focus on images created from thousands of wooden sticks. His works have been part of various art forums and exhibitions in Europe and America.
