The class of 2024 achieved top average score of 58.48 out of 100 on the final year matriculation exam (ME) in Bulgarian Language and Literature since ME was first introduced, caretaker Education Minister Galin Tzokov said Friday. Tzokov attributed the improved results to "the hard work of the people involved in the education system".
Tzokov said that last year's disappointing matriculation exam results prompted the Ministry of Education and Science to act in collaboration with regional education authorities and individual schools. Hundreds of schools organized mock exams and took additional measures, including supplementary classes in Bulgarian Language and Mathematics.
The trend points towards a shift in students' academic performance, with a significant rise in high achievers in Bulgarian Language, he added. The average score in maths compared to last year also marked a substantial increase. He also noted an improvement in performance among fourth-grade pupils.
