A conference on using satellite data for disaster risk management was held in Plovdiv on Thursday. The event was part of the 16th International Defence Equipment and Services Exhibition "HEMUS 2024", which is taking place between June 5 and 8 at the International Fair in Plovdiv.
The conference was opened by Annalisa Donati, Secretary General of EURISY – a non-profit European organisation which aims to promote the use of space technologies. The event aimed to raise awareness on the possibilities offered by the EU Space Programme to innovate and maximise the effectiveness of disaster risk management. It was an opportunity for representatives of science and industry to meet and exchange experiences, as well as to establish contacts for future cooperation.
The speakers provided up-to-date and specialized information on the latest operational satellite services and how they can be integrated into daily operations. Participants discussed ways to improve access to satellite data for disaster risk management.
The attendants agreed that the identified benefits, needs, challenges and opportunities will form the basis for streamlining the integration of satellite services in disaster risk management.
