The book On the Roads of Africa by Maxim Minchev (1953-2020) will be premiered on the author's birthday, June 5, at the MaxiM Hall of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

An inaugural award named after Minchev will be presented by the Bulgarian Association of Journalists and Travel Writers (ABUJET) as part of the event. The organizers said: "The award aims to promote honest and truthful journalism in the international language of tourism, which unites millions of people around the world. It will encourage and unite the work of journalists and writers in presenting Bulgaria as a year-round destination with a unique history, nature and cultural heritage, and it will support them in their common cause of sustainable tourism development."

On the Roads of Africa is Minchev's last book. It comes out nearly four years after his passing. Readers will learn about the author's experiences on 15 African routes that cross Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Eswatini, Sao Tome and Principe and Sudan. The book includes a foreword by former foreign minister Solomon Passy.

The book release on June 5 will be attended by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Solomon Passy, journalist Georgi Milkov, PR expert Maxim Behar, publisher Neyko Genchev and others.

Minchev was a journalist, writer, traveller, erudite and an intellectual. He was the head of BTA between 2003 and 2020. Throughout his lifetime he visited nearly 140 countries, which inspired him to write The Seventh Mine (1982), Lipton's Luck (1999), Atlantic Passages (2004), Mirage Seekers (2015), among other books.
