site.btaOrient Express Brings Passengers from Four Continents to Ruse
The Orient Express arrived in Ruse on Tuesday, bringing passengers from four continents. Dozens of people welcomed them at the main railway station and took pictures of the legendary train described by Agatha Christie.
The 48 passengers are travelling in eight of the 15 cars, said Pieter Bosman from the train's boutique. Two cars have three luxury suites each, in which celebrities and royalty travelled in the past.
There are three restaurants on the train and a bar car. The staff range between 45 and 50 people. As of 2023, there is a Bulgarian on the staff - senior steward Nikolay Simeonov from Veliko Tarnovo is on board for the fifth time. He said most of his colleagues come from France and Italy, and there are passengers from the US, Britain, Australia and Singapore.
"The interior was created in 1930 and is very carefully maintained. Ours is exclusive cuisine, including some Bulgarian and some Turkish. We are en route to Turkiye, so there is a little bit of everything, but the cuisine is mostly French-Italian," Simeonov said.
In Ruse, the train stocked up on water, passed a technical inspection and a border check. It left for Varna with a Bulgarian engine. On Wednesday, the train is expected to be in Istanbul and after a day of rest it is heading back to Paris. The Orient Express is expected to pass through Ruse once again in August en route from Paris to Turkiye.
