Russian Robert Kabukov was appointed head coach of Bulgaria’s national biathlon team, the Bulgarian Biathlon Federation (BBF) said on Tuesday. The specialist was introduced by the BBF leadership at a meeting of the national team at the Belmeken High-Mountain Sports Complex. Kabukov will take over Bulgaria’s national team at once.

Kabukov was born in Siktivkar, Russia. He has lived in Germany for some 25 years, coaching the national teams of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, as well as German club teams. The Russian plans to run the training programme of Bulgaria’s national team under the guidance of notable German coach Wolfgang Pichler, who has been brought in as a consultant and will provide expertise throughout the coaching process. The contracts of the two specialists are currently being finalized and will be active until the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina in 2026.
