Speaking to the media here on Monday, Bulgarian caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said that police presence will be increased in pre-designated areas on the day of the snap parliamentary and European elections, June 9. He visited the Malko Tarnovo - Derekoy checkpoint on Bulgaria's border with Turkiye.
In Stoyanov's words, his Ministry has received more than 200 alerts for violations of electoral law concerning the election campaign.
He said that 80 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated so far, adding that operational actions against vote-buying were carried out by the Interior Ministry's Regional Directorate in Veliko Tarnovo on Monday.
The Minister noted that there is nothing new about the way vote-buying schemes are carried out, adding that the election campaign is going smoothly. Stoyanov said that the number of alerts submitted is comparable to that of previous elections, and there was no significant increase.
